Sugar and spice and everything nice; that’s what little girls are made of.

Along with ribbons and pearls, and tutus that swirl, and rose-covered cakes you can play with

What could be more precious than a baby girl, all dressed up and ready for a first birthday celebration? All smiles and soft brown eyes, she crawls around on the floor as we prepare for her 1 year photos. Her chubby-cheeked grins are sugar sweet as she looks into the camera, inching closer to get a better look. But this girl isn’t just sweet – there’s a little spice to her. She’s curious and shows interest in everything, from the custom smash cake to the camera to the gray chevron backdrop – she’s smart, so much more than just skirts and necklaces and flowers. While she explores, she takes time to play with Mom, to check that everything is okay; she really is everything nice!

One of my favorite parts of being a Fort Collins child photographer is that I can have such a close relationship with my clients and watch them grow and change. I used to work with mom and love that we have stayed close over the years, and that photography has added a new dimension to our friendship. I took this little girl’s newborn pictures and was so excited to be able to take her 1 year photos as well! Milestone photos provide such a great opportunity to document changes as well as capture a perfect moment in time that you can reminisce on. We were able to incoporate this feeling of nostalgia by bringing in some of the same colors from Marlee’s newborn shoot and using them in her 1 year cake smash.

Now comes the best moment of the shoot…bedecked in pearls and flowers, surrounded by fluffy clouds of teal and pink tulle, this girl has had plenty to play with. But none of that compares to the beautiful, rose-covered cake she’s presented with now! She goes after the perfectly swirled frosting, just as sweet as she is! There really is nothing more precious!
