“The informality of family life is a blessed condition that allows us all to become our best while looking our worst.” – Marge Kennedy
Now, don’t take this quote to mean that this family is not beautiful! But family life can also definitely be difficult. Sometimes it’s tiring – especially with two littles! Sometimes we don’t look our best. Sometimes, even with the best of intentions, things get messy, there are tumbles, and spills, and maybe some accidents that lead to a lot of laundry. But there is something beautiful about living it out together, about embracing every mess and smiling through things together.
This session was a bit of a challenge! Poor little lady had bad reflux, and it took some time to find some poses that were comfortable for her and didn’t lead to any messes. For all the struggles with the initial poses, though, I feel we really did capture a great, full session with all family members that really does show some of the best parts of family togetherness. They wanted a pink girly newborn session, so I brought in a classic pink with also some dusty rose to compliment the blues they wanted to include for brother. He was your typical toddler and was curious about the studio and taking pictures with his sister. Even as he somersaulted around, we managed to catch some sweet moments as he gave his little sister kisses or paused (however briefly!) to sit near her.
One of my favorite parts of this newborn session came later though, after the initial photo shoot. After initially sending them their full gallery, they also asked about seeing some of the bloopers as well. I love when clients want and love more than just the perfect picture! As a photographer, it really is so great to see some of those “informal” family moments that really do show our best at our worst. Being able to laugh at them together makes even imperfect moments wonderful. Life is imperfect, but it’s life captured!
